Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries.

Tim WB2PAY warns of the potentially-explosive results of overcharging
batteries. Mike N2QDK, a professional photographer who chews through
batteries without remorse, highly
recommends Sanyo's Eneloop AA and AAA-sized NiMH rechargeable
batteries, keeping batteries in sets based on use and age, and
trickle-charging whenever possible to maximize the number of charge
cycles.

In this weeks edition of the WA2MYG Memorial Newbie Net, Paul K2FX
presents the topics of scrounging for Amateur Radio gear, suggested
test equipment for a new Amateur Radio operator, and the original
amateur's code.  Also, a very lively discussion of the City of
Indianapolis Police Department's illegal use of 2 meter mobile radios. 
Max KC2SPY (Rochester's newest Amateur Extra), points out broadcast
media coverage to this story, which shows what appears to be a
professionally-installed mobile Kenwood radio in a police cruiser.
